My Opinion
FearLess And Fiery (Taslima Nasrin)
I had to read the Koran regularly and Arabic, without understanding a single word of it. I told my mother several times that I didn’t have any interest in reading something I didn’t understand. I wanted to know the meaning of the verses, but she said we didn’t need to know its meaning. We should read because these verses are written by God. ‘If you read these these , God will forgive you and send you to heaven she said.
When I was 13 or 14 years old . I found the Bengali translation of the Koran and learned what ‘God said in the Verses’. I was surprised to find many unreasonable ideas. For example , It had wrong information about the solar system, the Sun moves around the earth, while the earth stands still because of the support of mountains.
The women in the Koran were treated as slaves. They were nothing but sexaul objects. I knew I had opened a can of worms, zillions of questions swarned in my mind driving me sleepless. I realised you can be happy reading Koran only when you don’t understand it.
The only religion that I believe in Love, respect and compassion. I believe in the universal declartion of Human Rights. Humanism, for me is without any relation or religion. A child should have his vistas wide and open. Why restrict his/her thought process by imposing your religion on him ? There have been so many instances where children of a priest or maulvi have turned out to be an atheist. or vice/versa.
Give a child every grain of knowledge he/she deserves. Teach him/ her all kinds of religion and scriptures, but also teach him about non religion and atheism. After that , It’s for the child to decide what path he/she would like to traverse. I believe children learn more from what they see rather what they read.
Don’t Worry Be Happy! Mast Rahoo !!
Being stressed is not part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only is stress damaging to us physically, it can also cause us to eat more and exercise less. Stress can be a huge obstacle that gets in the way of our healthy lifestyle goals. What can you do to effectively manage your stress? The following six steps will help you to make changes to have less stress and more happiness in your life.
Be aware of what stresses you and how you react to stress.
Learn to understand what situations; events, circumstances and people cause you to feel negative stress. Think about what message your brain is telling you about why you feel stressed. Notice the physical reactions you have, a racing heart, and shortness of breath, tight muscles or feeling angry and upset.

Notice the physical reactions you have, a racing heart, and shortness of breath, tight muscles or feeling angry and upset.
Think about the changes you can make.
Is there a way you can set up a structure to reduce or eliminate the stress by being more organised or managing you time better. Can you avoid or eliminate any of the things that cause you negative stress? Can you reduce your exposure to stress by taking a break away from the situation?
Better manage your emotional reaction to stress.
Different things cause different people stress. You may find public speaking extremely stressful but others thrive on this type of challenge. Having too many deadlines may leave you tearing your hair out but may make someone else feel completely organised and less stressed. We feel stressed because of how we personally perceive the situation. Are you stressed because you view things are critical or urgent when that may not be the case? Are you feeling pressure because you are a perfectionist? Try and be more moderate in your view and put the situation into perspective. Get someone else’s perspective on the situation and compare with your own. Are you being over dramatic?
Better manage your physical reaction to stress.
Learn relaxation and deep breathing techniques that will slow down your racing heart, improve your breathing and relax those tense muscles. Learn to smile and laugh more. It’s hard to be angry and stressed while you’re laughing.
Look after your emotional needs.
Don’t live up to other expectations, as these will not be in alignment with your own needs and values. Hang around upbuilding and supportive friends or co-workers. Find someone to share your concerns with. Also learn to ask for and accept help.
Look after your physical health.
Being in good physical shape in itself reduces stress. Be physically active everyday. Eat well, don’t smoke or drink excessively. Get enough sleep and regularly take time out to do things you enjoy
A Pure Heart
For many years I thought a pure heart was a person who felt no negatives, no hurt for another, no ill feelings, no selfishness, no impure thoughts. I thought it was an individual who only held the highest love, felt the highest and grandest feelings within and only good qualities lived in a person with a pure heart.
Today I share with you the truth from my heart to yours, today, I was told by another that I had a pure heart … something I never considered myself to have. If you could have heard her words, it would have brought tears to your eyes as it did mine. But what is most important is what I realized and I hope it will help you see the beauty in yourself. My heart is no more pure than hers or yours or anyone’s … and those that I see with a pure heart have no more pure in their heart than yours or mine.
You see, I am a very selfish person actually, but when it rises in me, I choose otherwise, it is never outwardly expressed. I control that part in me so it does not come out …or is not shown or used. That is all. That is the only difference between me and one who outwardly chooses and expresses selfishness.
So many of you are out there trying to release things – there is truly nothing to release … there is only acting on or not acting on. If a negative didn’t rise in you … how could you choose the opposite? These are not bad things … they are beautiful for they show us the way to the beautiful choices available to us
You see, a pure heart comes from a person who makes individual choices as to what to act on. They have the same things and issues rise in them as everyone else on the planet … selfishness, ill feelings, hurts and negative qualities. But it is “their choice” … the choice of which qualities they choose to express out of their beingness. When one chooses to only express the grandest qualities … they appear to all others as being pure, and in all actuality … they are. For they have won the battle within to express their Divinity. Others will even argue with them, trying to show their pure heart to them and how they are different … but they are not different. It was their pure choice. This is truth.
A thing rises in us … it is either a grand thing or a not so grand thing or anything in-between. Normally we re-act on whatever it is. Create a warrior of Love within yourself. The next time something rises in you … let your warrior examine it before you re-act on it. Ask yourself … “Is this who I want to be?” If not, thank your warrior for holding this while you pondered it, thank the thing that rose in you for showing you a lesser expression of yourself, and then choose a grander expression with that knowledge in heart! And when you least expect it, someone will walk up to you and tell you …” Youhave a beautiful heart.”

I really enjoyed reading this blog. I had written a line similar to a line that you have in this blog and it came up when i goggled it.
My line was “I share only what I understand or make meaning of today”. I like your connection to a pure heart.
I can also relate to reading religious books and being happy only when I don’t understand them.
